Wow

I was scanning the movie channels last night and I came upon this movie - right when they were in the bathhouse. I have never seem so much male frontal nudity in a movie in all my life. You see, foreign films are not afraid to show this type of thing, it's the American public and filmmakers that get all bent out of shape if they see a penis on film. You can always tell when there is going to be male nudity in a film. It's whenever they put a MA or NC-17 rating on a film and this doesn't happen very often.

What is wrong with the American people - it's only a body part that is natural. All men and boys have them, why not show them. I think if the American film makers would show as much penis as they show boobs, this world would be a better place to live. So uptight. Get over yourself.

European authors used to be more brave, a lot more than their American colleagues, not only showing male nudity, but any nudity, and even more themas and the way how they dealt with them.

But it seems that these days are over. Why? First, most European directors and producers dream about having their movie sold in USA (and maybe getting Oscar nomination). To expect that, to have any chance they have to have USA censors in mind (yes, I know that USA doesn't have formal censorship, but MMPA and even more so-called public opinion, directed by some persons and groups, make more problems than organized censors which could authors try to explain, and which are professionals that can understand). Second, Hollywood hyper-influence made European audience accept American standards, and American TV programs that have almost exterminate local production changed the public opinion repressing old traditions, customs and attitudes. So, even if laws and censors wouldn't strictly forbid something that was completely normal and usual in movies only two decades ago, many people would raise their eyebrows and say: Americans would never let this pass, how can it be permitted here, what is wrong with us? (This is a consequence of the process that is euphemistically called globalization.)

when did the days of brave Europeans putting nudity in films come to an end?

Who cares about stairs? The main thing is ice cream.
