When Daniel Stern gets hit in front of his mini-van

If you put it on very slow motion, you can see that he is standing there right up until one or two frames before the van starts to buckle. How the heck did they do that? There's no way he could have moved out of the way fast enough!

Editing?

You have one cut where the actor stands in front of the mini-van and acts out the crash.

The second cut then has the car crashing into the minivan, no actor.

The two films are transposed onto each other to make one film.

Very easy, very simple technique. Just needs decent acting and good placing of props/timings/distances/etc to make sure everything other than the moving objects are in the exact places you want them to be.

Yeah, Daniel Stern died filming this movie. Props to him for the method acting, but sort of sick that the filmmaker used the footage and everything in the final cut.

He didn't die, just was hurt very badly. Hence the title.

Actually he did die but he came back to life. Was anybody else surprised? I think Yahweh prophesied this in an episode of the Wonder Years.

reply

Well yeah. I mean, how else would he have been able to narrate back on his former life is he was dead?

Where there's smoke, there's barbecue!

Maybe it was shot in reverse, with the van moving backwards?

Trick photography. I thought the same thing in Home Alone 2 with the empty can on a string trick. Painful. Goddamn Kevin McCallister.

reply

No, Daniel Stern wasn't killed making this movie, but this movie DID kill his career! Badda Bing!
