This movie is RIDICULOUS

So many hilarious things happen in this movie. Here are a few:

-Fall Break! What the hell is fall break? No school has fall break
-Half of this movie takes place in the garage, I swear
-I love that when they get to the condo they find a picture of a mutilated man that apparently the dad hit with his boat. Apparently he was so proud of himself that he not only took a pic of it but he framed it too!
-The guy who's girlfriend makes him search for his friends. He checks the garage (of course) and REFUSES to believe that they are not in there. This scene goes on for 5 mins. They're not in the garage dude.
-The entire opening is hilarious. Not one line of dialogue and the dad pours liquor into the dead mom's mouth!
-The "Special Appearance by Ben Moore" credit. Wow, Ben Moore.
-The outtakes at the end credits. You don't put outtakes in a horror movie.

Do not get this movie unless you plan on watching it with a group of friends while intoxicated. As a so-bad-it's-good movie, it works. As a representative of the slasher genre it's a joke. Buddy Cooper, where did you go?

reply

did you watch the unrated version, there's about 2 or 3 extra minutes of gore. Personally I rather enjoyed the movie. Yes, there's a mountain of plot problems, many glaringly obvious. But I'm still glad it's a part of my horror collection. It has some good death scenes, it helps me overlook all the other problems.

reply

unfortunately i only have the vipco uk edited dvd version.

you say that the uncut version has far more gore than this? or just an extra 7 seconds in the "impalement by hook" scene?

i loved this film. in my top 5 all time slashers.

All I have are the two Vestron VHS versions, one is unrated, the other rated R. The one rated R has all the death scenes cut by about 50% each, making the whole movie about 2 minutes less than the Unrated.

Since I am able to compare both, believe me, even 2 minutes makes all the difference in the world.

I thought the hook in the girl's pants was nearly totally cut out of the R rated one. In the unrated it shows her moaning like she's enjoying it, while the hook comes out the front of her pants (OUCH). I can't recall how long the whole scene lasts, but it's only about 10 seconds I think

I remember someone once said that she gets decapitated at the end of that scene. i still can't believe that buddy cooper got away with filming that scene. 1985 - what a year. what a year.

i just hope they bring out a special edition of this film out with his commentary so he can enlighten us more on this film.

Is there a difference to the box art so you can tell the difference between the unrated and rated R versions?

Is there a different set of circumstances under which such a movie would be watched at all? That's basically the point of the thing, don't knock it for being good at what it was supposed to do.

Ben Moore is a veteran stunt actor with about 160 credits under his belt, more than everyone else in the film combined. Some of his credits are pretty impressive, you can see what movies he contributed to by following the weblink for his name.

the unrated one has a black colour on the side of the case, the rated r is blue

Wrong Ben Moore, the Ben Moore in The Mutilator is the Ben Moore that popped up in HG Lewis flicks...

To the OP, I thought all those things were WTF!?!?!?!?! moments as well, but the death scenes made up for them in my opinion. I was pretty impressed with the gore effects. Some of the kills even had me pretty shocked, like the hook in the girls pants kill. Good dumb fun :) I have the unrated version.

Death or Glory!

College students generally get fall break. It's a 4-day weekend usually. Other than that you are right on. I loved this movie. Cheese and gore! The uncut version was rad. 7/10

reply

Here in Finland every school has a fall break and it usually lasts the whole week.

Don't expect it to tango; it has a broken back.

When the couple go out to that pool...an the guy shouts out HEY WHERE'D EVERYONE GOOO loool

I love things like that.

And you're a tool

reply

It's just a brainless slasher, you imbecile.

reply

Every serious movie should not be brainless regardless of genre, including slashers. Obviously parodies and black comedies are exempt, but "The Mutilator" is neither.

reply

The so bad they're good slasher movies of the 80's are far more entertaining than the majority of horror movies coming out today.

Whilst I don't like the term 'so bad it's good', I would definitely say that slasher films of the 80s are arguably the peak of cinema period.

Slasher film from the early-to-mid 80s >>>> Academy award bullshit, IMDB top 250 bullshit, etc, etc.
