When Ray and Claude are fighting, what's that in Ray's hands that he secretly shows to Claude after the guard breaks up their fight?

It was two of the small stones the trustee used to count all of the prisoners. Since Ray was good at picking pockets, he instigated a fight with Claude knowing Bob would have to break it up, giving him the opportunity to steal the stones from his pocket, that way later he wouldn't be aware the two of them were missing.
shareWell that's true but I find it hard to believe that even an idiot like Hopping Bob wouldn't notice that the New York City upstarts were missing especially and ironically when he had to break up a fight between them earlier that day.
