Needs to be rated higher...

This movie is beautiful. It's hilarious, it's sad, and the ending makes me smile everytime.

I just finished watching it for maybe the 4th time (not a bad idea to watch it once every 5 years, it's like heart medicine), and I thought I'd check it out here just for why not. I couldn't believe the rating. This is one of the best movies ever made and it gets a 6? The hell is that about?

Nearly all movies with black actors and black directors get rated down. I don't know if it's racism or just disliking seeing someone different from oneself on screen.

Well, what exactly should the movie rating be? Me personally, meaning me as a person, try to give an honest appraisal when coming to an IMDB, not because I want to influence others, but just to give an honest vote. I also noticed on the home page that this movie's script has the F word 63 times, that alone could account for a lower than average rating, and in my own estimation an average movie would be right at 7.2.
I come to IMDB a lot more often than anyone I know, primarily to watch for Goofs, especially if it's what I consider a great movie and since I already know the movie, I like to watch for Goofs. By the way, The Godfather (rated 9.2) shows 123 Goofs so one could call it one of the Goofiest movies of all time.
Back to my guess for the relatively low rating. It's currently at 6.7 and I noticed that the Budget is an almost unheard of $75 million, something is wrong with that figure because The Godfather's budget is listed at $6 million, and by the way, 1.1 million IMDB users contributed to the The Godfather's rating while only 33,000 users rated this movie. So, relatively few persons voted on it, and due to IMDB's rating system which doesn't include decimal places, if someone enjoyed it they're stuck with picking a whole number, unlike Rotten Tomatoes which I believe (not sure, too lazy to look) allows someone to pick a percentage. Whatever. I rated this movie a 7 which to me is about average, if I really like a movie it's a 9, really dislike and I'd give it a 5, couldn't finish watching and I'd give it a 3 or 4.
Maybe it's just me but I don't believe as others assert on IMDB that racism is involved in rating this movie, but then again there are those who think OJ was 100% guilty, and those who think he was 100% innocent. I say that because I'm interested in the current rating for the 10 part OJ miniseries currently on FX. My guess is it's going to be rated higher than my own personal average rating of 7.2.
One other thing. In Catholic School our grades were: 100 to 93 was considered an A, a B was 93 to 85, and a C was 84 to 75 if memory serves me. I had friends in Public School and I was stunned to learn that in their grading system an A was 100 - 91, a B was 90 - 81, and a C was 80 - 71, a D was 70 - 61. Meaning, school kids earned a different letter grade depending on where they went to school, and to some people a 7 may be considered a better than average rating while others may consider it below average.
