Great Movie Even in 2008

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie on TCM in the middle of the night.
I am a nighthawk being rewarded from time to time with a gem like this.
The evils of tyranny anytime, anyplace are not to be forgotten. As usual, I
missed the first 5 or 10 minutes so hopefully TCM will show this film again.
Scariest scene for me: the room with the shower nozzles. What follows is
similar to a personal past event of mine: As part of my MD duties in a closed
female ward of a mental hospital, I inadvertently walked through the shower
room while reading a chart and talking to a nurse being only vaguely aware
of the women around me. The doctor in the movie looked rather vague too since
his mind was elsewhere (helping his fellow man).

Those shower nozzles scared me, because I was remembering the reports of gas chambers used during the holocaust era. That sort of enhanced the scene for me in regards to the themes of life, survival, and the human condition, moreso when compared to the following scene which depicts degradation and abuse of the human body and the mental condition.

I think the main point of the movie for me though was following the character of the doctor, his searching, and his commitment to his skills as a doctor despite the fact doing so was forbidden. Of course, I missed out on the last portion of the movie, so I'm not sure what became of all that.

Yeah actually not so much. Odd, jarring and at times kinda stupid.

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar, or doesn't.
