VIEW ratings way up this season, thanks to Trump?

In the beginning of the 2017 season, THE VIEW ratings were up slightly, and staying solid - unlike in recent years. However, since the election of Donald Trump, and the panel settling in with Whoopi, Sunny, Joy, Jed and Sarah (Raven and Candace left before the November election), the ratings have skyrocketed.

Early reports for February sweeps (which ended Wednesday) show an increase of 3% over last year. Season-to-date, the show is up 9% over last year and - in it's 20th Season - handily beating it's rival "The Talk" on CBS. The cast has been very critical of the Trump administration, and have had honest exchanges of opinions about his policies and scandals. ("The Talk" does not get into political discussions, and mostly stays within the range of celebrity gossip).

Goldberg commented that once 'the table settled' and the panelists gelled, it was easy to get back into the groove of things with the current administration. One of the producers acknowledged that whether or not their viewers like the show or not, they're still tuning in to see what they're talking about each morning.

My impression is that the ratings go up when the Hot Topics are political rather than fluffy. All the drama (and melodrama) surrounding Trump has people tuning in.

I agree. The hot topics have really been hot as of late.

I think it's people tuning in to see what Joy and the rest have to say about Trump. To commiserate and/or agree with.

Behar was interviewed yesterday in Orlando, Florida. She mentioned the fact that she rejoined the show because they promised her the show would refocus on 'important issues' and not discuss the Kardashians every day as they did when she decided to leave in 2017. She believes the new format - Hot Topics; one celebrity interview; back to Hot Topics - has really enlivened the show once again. She also said devoting so much time to important poiltical issues is what their audience is looking for - and that's why the show is back on top of the ratings, after 20 years.

Let's face it - when Sheri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy were cohosts, the celebrity gossip is what those two knew best, and the show sunk. They really couldn't find a groove with politics or important issues. Same with Raven, Candace, Michelle, Rosie Perez...limited knowledge on politics and headlines. The panel they have now is great. I wish Rosie would join in from time to time, as well as Nicole Walace.

That means Nicolle Wallace would fit in quite well with Joy and the current show. She tried so hard to fit in with the celebrity topics and failed miserably. Now she wouldn't have to.

Exactly. I would rather see her there than Sarah.

Sarah often asks like the daughter joining her mommy (Joy) and her mommy's friends at lunch, and interrupting the grown-up conversation from time to time.
