what season marked downward spiral

Great show have all the dvds so far but have to admit the last few seasons of the show were awfull. They even changed the theme tune!

reply

I'd say Series 11 onwards marked its downward spiral as it became more like a soap rather than a drama.

reply

Yep the last 3 series i think it went on the downward spiral and when they move to the new station.. But even the series 11 had 1 or 2 good episodes like the ending when they killed of sick note (sad to see him go like that though) and the other people. But series after that were terrible made it like we were watching hollyoaks

reply

Yes loved the series just ordered season five. But as you say it was terrible towards the end certainly wont be ordering any of them.

reply

dont go near season 13 & 14 waste of time and like watching a TV soap like coronation street not a fire fighting drama. not fire or action. just watchin people bout lifes outside the station

reply

I doubt very much they would bother to release those series on dvd

reply

I thought after Hallam died and when they brought in about 5 new characters like Sally, Joe and Dan thats when it started to go downhill.

I hated Sally, Joe and Dan because every episode felt as if it evolved around them and their stupid love triangle.

reply

Agree Hallam was a major presence in the show. Its a shame it went so badly wrong after that because it was a great show.Watching them on dvd now it still is very entertaining viewing

Series 1.

I was thinking the same thing, Juan - I was never a fan (it irritated me actually)! But my question is - WAS there a theme tune? I seem to remember it opened every week with the titles over a different sequence - say someone lighting a candle next to a tank of petrol in a woodyard whilst accidentally knocking a "Fire Safety" booklet down the back of a couch - that would make us go "Hmm, wonder what's going to happen now?"

I remember a vague Eighties sax motif playing over the opening, but I wouldn't call it a feem toon...am I wrong?

My body makes no moan
But sings on:
All things remain in God.

Theme music was at the end... Very good, shewn as written by Simon Brint and Roland Rivron in a couple of the end titles I 've seen, but in most I have seen it gives it as Simon Brint and Roddy Matthews ?!
Maybe Roland Rivron's real name is Roddy Matthews...

killing off my favourite character sicknote was the start of the downhill slope as far as im concerned.

reply

Series 11, when the London Fire Brigade started recruiting Hollyoaks characters.

reply

After Bayleaf leaves then Hallam dies. Also Kevin just vanished.
Series 8 and 9 is when it lost its appeal.

'Hannibal the cannibal'....

reply

^ Kevin packed his bags and left at the end of series 8. He did also get the obligatory one-line explanation for his absence in the next episode.

As to the question, somewhere between series 8 and series 10. Bayleaf, Hallam, Kevin and Billy all left, then Zorba soon after. Most of the new characters from series 11 onwards were rubbish. Trying to turn the show into Hollyoaks was not a good move either.

reply

Series 11 and 12 have been better than i remembered. I love Hammond and Sharpe.
I think it really loses it in 13 and 14.
