Social Security Story ( Scott Pelley missed the point)

Scott Pelley was on the story tonight about problems with the Social Security Administration in recording people as dead (when in fact they are alive) and also in paying out benefits to people who are long dead.

There was a segment in the story where a woman was shown who had been collecting her dead mother's SS benefits for 30 years --a total of about $160,000 ----the woman said her mother had told her on her deathbed that she would be entitled to some SS benefits and she thought that was the reason that the payments continued into their joint account(bulls---t). Somehow Scott Pelley tried to spin this into making this woman a victim -(she had been convicted of fraud for the whole deal)----Made a big thing about the woman being an otherwise law abiding citizen with a husband and family and made it seem like it was the SSA's fault. ---Come on......... Where is the hard hitting no nonsense type of journalism this show was once known for? ---- Why didn't Scott challenge this woman ---she is a crook -- no conscience --the idea that she thought that she was collecting benefits from her mother for 30 years after her mother died is too much swallow but Scott swallowed it.
