question about Lucy

She was always making fun of Charlie Brown and putting him down. Why would ashe miss him when she and Linus moved?

Some people like Lucy hide their affection towards another and mask it by showing to them (the other people) as if they're 'putting them down'. Is it a safety mechanism? Low self esteem or confidence to show the real emotions, from the side of Lucy? Unclear.
However, Lucy actually feels much, either, Love or admiration (unclear which is more) towards Charlie Brown-- yet she often masks her feelings by showing that she ridicules him. But when and after the parting from him and her beloved neighborhood comes, like a true beautiful young Lady, she can not be at odds with her feelings and emotions anymore.
If you'll notice, Linus even tells Chalie Brown, later on, after they blessedly return back to the neighborhood, that Lucy became more and more crabby (I guess better descriptions would be; sad and depressed) as their father traveled farther and farther away from Charlie Brown and company's neighborhood...

I believe, that at this point, Linus was telling how Lucy was truly feeling devastated by not being with her beloved friends and Love-interests any longer.
I also believe, that Linus, Rerun and Lucy's father actually decided to cancel the plan to move away from the neighborhood of Lucy and Linus's childhood-- and actually PURPOSELY declined to accept the new job in the new neighborhood-- BECAUSE he (the father) didn't want to see his daughter and sons feel the hurting feelings they were clearly feeling, having been made to move and part with their Loved friends and Loved neighborhood.

I believe this is a great and wonderful father, who Lucy and Linus and Rerun have.
He truly-truly Loves his children. God bless such parents.

I think "Is this goodbye, Charlie Brown?" is one of the most MOVING, EMOTIONAL and sensitive episodes (and comics strips) from the "PEANUTS" adventure Library.
I truly LOVE-LOVE-LOVE this episode/short movie.

I mean, Sally Brown, still waiting on the porch for Linus, her SWEET BABBOO, to take her on the date to the movies-- no matter what anyone says to her.
How sensitive, how touching and beautiful is that? Wow.
