Major Plot Flaw

Charlie Brown's teacher obviously gave the reading assignment of War and Peace to his entire class yet you only see him reading it. You see all the other children in his class go out and play and learn how to dance and enjoy Peppermint Pattie's New Years party. So why is it that only Charlie Brown does the assignment and no one else receives an F? You have to assume that Linus read the book since he had knowledge of how painstakingly it was written.
That's just my two cents.

Yup. :)

That's just my two cents.

Simple. Charlie Brown had obviously not yet discovered Cliff Notes. All the other kids read the Cliff Notes edition of "War & Peace", and based their own reports on that.

what kind of mean teach gives an assignment like that for Christmas Break

Another flaw was when they couldn't find Charlie Brown. Linus last saw him on the back patio reading. The door remained open all night. With the snow and cold blowing in, you think someone would have checked up on that. I think Linus wanted to keep the red head girl for himself.

Another observation is that its possible that Charlie brown is younger than the other kids which would explain why Linus was the only one in his class (Lucy is older than Linus, so unless Charlie was held back, him and Linus are the same age.

This was the main reason why this is still among my least favorite Peanuts specials.

Schulz was skipped ahead a couple grades in school, and as a result, struggled to keep up with advanced assignments. One can assume the same scenario for Charlie Brown, but in another special, it was the whole student body that was dealing with complex assignments, not just one student.

Concerning the New Years' Party, Peppermint Patty was always oblivious to things, but here...ugh. Aside from repeatedly ignoring/forgetting that he's simply not that into her, though to be fair, the same recurring tropes occur between Linus and Sally and Lucy and Schroeder, she NEVER acknowledges that Charlie Brown is trying to finish his homework.

At my old high school, they did that kind of thing all of the time. But nothing as big as a book like War and Peace and writing a paper about it. It used to be to read a book and then we'll have a quiz when we returned or a couple of pages of math problems. But now around here kids don't have that problem since semester break is the same time as Christmas break
