Most Underrated Miike Film

While not as great as Visitor Q or Audition, I'd say that Fudoh is easily as good as the Dead or Alive films or Ichi the Killer. The sex scene between the hermaphrodite schoolgirl and her teacher is as brilliantly twisted as anything Miike has ever done. Does anyone else agree?

No, i totally agree with you. I don't think Fudoh is perfect. It's not my favorite Miike film or anything. I just find it underrated that's all. I haven't seen Deadly Outlaw Rekka.

I found Fudoh disappointing myself, despite enjoying much of it tremendously. The final half hour is where I really felt the film lets us down. It just doesn't meet the expectations set up by the shocking and phenomenal first half hour.

Spoilers...........................................>>>>>>>>>>>>>

This is a very difficult film for me to rank. If I were basing my review on the first 30 minutes, I would rank it FAR higher than City of Lost Souls. But taking the whole film into account, I don't think the overall work is any better than that film. In fact, I think CoLS has the better replay value of the two despite having some problems of its own.

I thought the "acid hit" was handled rather poorly...if your gonna have acid in a movie, at least show us its effects (much like Fulci did in The Beyond). I could understand if this movie's prime intention wasn't to shock and amuse...but it is. I'm sure the low budget got in the way.

Also, the ending, BIG letdown. I wanted closure...theres nothing more annoying than having a character you've been following the entire movie amount to NOTHING!!

However, the film is truly unique and enjoyable, and I highly recommend it to all Miike fans. Its just not one of my personal favorites, but I'm still glad
I bought it.

You guys talk a lot of trash about miike for being on a discussion board- punks. I loved this movie. Inventive characters, plot, shots, everything. While there is always room for improvement, there is no need to talk trash. I liked how they left you wondering at the end, and it was obviously done that way on purpose.

this is easily one of my fav Miike films, its a shame that everyone casts it aside to watch films like Visistor Q just because its a recent Miike film and his most bizare.
When i first bought this last year, it came in the Fudoh, Full Metal Yakuza box set, and for me this film was a new level of extreme, and when the hermaphrodite sex came, that left me in shock. Both me and my friend were speachless and we loved it, this film is a lot more powerful than most people think as it has so many story lines so your always following something new and it never gets boring.
As for the end with his fight with the villain (sorry i forgot his name) i thought it was great that the shot just froze like that, i was thinking if i'd prefer to have a show down but then i think it would have been an anti climax, thinking back to when Riki fought his older brother and got whooped bad, i thought that sucked as up untill that point he was seen as a mighty warrior and could kick anyones ass, he barely got in a hit. So i think it he had fought the guy at the end he would have got kicked the *beep* out of or the other guy would have been stabbed or something, the thing is Riki had a katana and the other guy had a gun (if i remember correctly) so there really isn't that much Miike could have done with that, i was happy with the cliff hanger.
anyway i guess ive rambled on a bit so ill leave now.
