Found one for £8 on E-Bay (Polish I think!). Why no proper release UK/ US release - the film is fantastic, with a brilliant soundtrack. DVD releases are a complete mystery, films like this get no release and yet they will release absolute Bilge on DVD. Bizarre.
shareI agree, the film is fantastic, thoroughly enjoyed it last night! The soundtrack also brilliant. Want a copy. I teach linedancing, so the scene where they are linedancing the Tush Push, the track is absolutely magic and I want it! No, I need it. I usually won't teach that dance because I don't like it to the music it is usually danced to, but to see it danced to 'Tonight I'm Gonna Kiss This Heartache Goodbye' made it look like a whole new dance! I also enjoyed 'Dream Of Highways'. Must try to get it!

I also caught this film (in my case for the first time) last night (BBC4 wasn't it?) - WHAT a film. Will leave a real lasting impression on me.
Great performances, haunting soundtrack, beautiful (and I mean *BEAUTIFUL*) cinematography.. the works. Sure, the plot is erratic (and some might say weak - I wouldn't though) - but for me it just worked. A rough diamond of a film maybe - but definitely a gem. Delighted that after all these years (since it's release) I've "found it".

I remember seeing this film when first released; and then I thought it was a small but neatly formed work of imagination and beauty. A classic modern British film.
I was puzzled as to why it was not cited in the BBC TV reflection on the late Pete Postlethwaite. It might not be the most in-yer-face film, but a terrific vehicle for Pete to give his 'genuine all'. He was as craggy, rugged and handsome as the Peaks of Derbyshire
Maybe it's but a simple fairy-tale, but in a class of its own, elevated by Pete Postlethwaite and the rest of a great cast.
Absolutely *Spot-On*, sparrohawk-1!
Couldn't have put it better myself. Have ordered the French [English dialog] DVD edition today and very much looking for revisiting this lovely little film again soon.

Never Seen That Look In Your Eyes is my favorite song from the movie. I can't even find it on You Tube.
