Watered-Down Cartoon Horror

Studies have shown this wouldn't scare the lion from The Wizard of Oz.

...maybe because its a kids show?

I loved this show when I was a kid, but it never scared me...it wasnt meant to. Even though his jokes are rarely funny, the Cryptkeeper is constantly attempting humor.

Check the genre pal, it's horror.

The cryptkeeper uses humor in the form of word play a lot, which goes over most children's head, another reason this show didn't fair as well as it's adult counterpart.

Check the genre on Bubba Ho-Tep, pal: Its horror. Check the genre on Dead-Alive (Braindead) - its horror. Dead and Breakfast, Evil Dead 2, Slither, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon - all horror, pal.

Many horror movies and TV shows cross between genres, and horror-comedies happen to be among my favorites.

maybe it should have been more like that animated ep from the live action show

This is Miami Pal, but lately its starting to look a lot like Disney Land!

To be fair, the original live-action Tales from the Crypt, while great, was really not what anybody would call scary. In fact it was quite often humorous.

The original Tales from the Crypt wasn't even scary . Don't get me wrong I love it, but let's keep it real!

This is a fun animated program. Alot better than most cartoons.

That's both true and untrue. Some episodes of the live-action one are non-horror and non-scary. But most of live-action's episodes are horror and scary.

The OP in this thread is right. The cartoon was never scary. To call it horror is a huge stretch. If it is horror, then it's definitely horror of the epic fail variety.

Yup, let's keep it real. Again, that statement depends on the episode. But...more episodes of TFTC are scary than not.

I admit I haven't seen many episodes of the live-action series, but I have yet to see one that I'd call scary. Gross/disturbing? Sure. Scary? Sorry, but no.

So, something has to be scary to be considered horror? By that criteria, does that mean those old Dracula and Frankenstein movies from the '30s/'40s aren't real horror movies, then? They sure aren't scary.
