Hello to anyone else who was a "Watcher" of this show!

Im looking to try and get hold of the theme tune for this series, which also went by the name "Song Of Freedom"

Does anyone know of this song?

Please let me know if you can help

[email protected]

THANK YOU!!

Chris

I wish I could help you -- but the fact is that I, too, would very much like to know more about this song...it was so evocative, a perfect accompaniment to a sensitive and compelling drama.

reply

No idea if it was commercially available ... however it was composed by Wilfred Josephs who wrote for a number of television series about that time.

reply

Most remarkable was Mr. Josephs' theme for I, Claudius.

I looked it up, and it is on You-Tube at:

Check out www.classicalarchives.com

There is an mp3 version (128kps). You can download 1000 mp3s per year from their large collection for an annual subscription of U$25

I couldn't find it anywhere else - unless you buy a dvd of the series and record from that.

This was commercially released as a 7" vinyl single in the UK when the series was first airing in 1978. I used to work in a record shop however and copies do seem few and far between. Might be worth checking record collector or vinyl dealers.

reply

I have the vinyl 7" but have been trying to find a digital version for ages. I will be trying a set-up on the PC soon to transfer my vinyl to MP3s and 'Song Of Freedom' will be one of the first I try. So if I'm successful I'll post on here to say so.

Master Builder:

Did you have any success in digitizing your 7" vinyl "Sog of Freedom?"

reply

Poetica

Over a year since your post and I haven't been on here for so long I apologise for not replying sooner.

That being said, I never did digitise the 7", but have since purchased the series and intend to 'lift' the tune off the DVDs.

As I write this I have just checked TV Themes.com and finally found it:

http://www.televisiontunes.com/Enemy_at_the_Door.html

it has a download button to give you an MP3 version.

It is only a short version though so I think I still need to use the DVD to take it off the closing credits.

"Baldrick, I've told you before: you mustn't let me sleep all day; this woman charges by the hour."

reply

Even the theme over closing credits only runs about a minute. I could email the mp3 file to anyone who cares to send me their address in a private message.

Excuse me for talking while you're interrupting.

It is very nice and fitting music for this sad story. I just finished watching the series, 1 and 2. I was sorry to see the end of Peter Portius. Just to think that one madman brought so much misery to so many people all over the world. I just hope we are not in for something like that again.
