Changes to the Final Film

There was a report that the ending was changed due to Phil Hartman's murder before the release of the film. Does anyone know what the changes were? Was his character supposed to die or be injured?

I do wonder though, if his death had anything to do with a sequel never being made despite room being left open for one, or why the action figure series by Hasbro was never completed. (Butch Meathook, Link Static and Ocula never received 6" figures for some reason)

Not sure, but in the trailer there is a clip of Phil Fimple jokingly saying something like "I think I'm having an aneurysm". That clip was not used in the final movie, possibly to not upset anyone because of Hartman's death.
