Is the father wrong?

Difficult to say whether the father was wrong or right. Maybe spending time in prison had mellowed him a bit and brought him closer to his son. Or, maybe, he thought bringing up the issue would mean throwing his son out of the house and would also create problems with his wife.

Although it's like those 70s and 80s cheesy Italian movies, the film isn't bad at all. I liked it.
