Was that the spray paint in the beginning of the movie? (spoilers)

Ok, this might be a really dumb question, but here goes: Towards the end, Sam realizes that Gregor must've bought a case used for ice skates and then spray painted it to look like the case they were after. But they couldn't figure out where he got the spray paint.

Towards the beginning of the movie (after they got rid of Sean Bean's character), Sam and Dierdre leave the safe house together and you can see someone (Gregor?) spray painting the windows of the apartment silver. Was the idea that he then used that to spray paint the fake case for the switch later on?

Sorry if I'm reading too far into this...

Indeed. In the scene when the window gets spray painted John Frankenheimer says in the director's commentary that you can't understand this now but you will later. And when Sam realises he has silver paint on his hands after taking the case from Gregor, he knows that it's a trap.
