Yoko's 'singing' is horrible!

I'm watching this now and I'm literally cringing at Yoko's attempts to "sing" along with the band. OMFG! It's enough to make you want to commit hara-kiri.

Gotta give her credit though. Three of the greatest musicians in the history of rock are cutting loose in a historic moment, and she upstages them and becomes the center of attention by acting like a crazy. It really makes you glad that the Beatles broke up before she could start inserting herself into their music.

I could not stop laughing at that scene.

The new imdb format sucks and I hate it.

Listening to Yoko sing and the biggest musicians of the day letting her, I wondered if it was a case of the emporer's new clothes. Having said that, Yoko had brass ones, that's for sure. Standing there with those men, the audacity of screaming against electric guitars and a violin, plus the drums.

I would love it if one of those circus freaks would have just punched her in the face while she was singing

when she black baged herself that was her best performance, ever!

I'm not sure, but I have a feeling that what happened was that, John was so in love with Yoko at that time (wasn't he egging her on and encouraging her to sing?), that no one else had the castanets to tell him OR her no.

reply

You know, her singing isn't so bad, once you listen to it more often.

Sure its horrible . I think that was kind of the point. Im sure it was partly a joke, partly a freak out and very much in tune with the times where anything goes. I love it . Its my favorite Yoko performance and very very late 60s.

I actually like the jam with the violin guy and Yoko...

But then again, I do have considerable tolerance for Yoko's music.

reply

I've seen this before and I don't think she's so bad. It reminds me of opera, only in more catchy way.

reply

Not really

I love this performance. Avant garde rock is like this

The only problem was Ivri Glitis violin volume

I hope you are being facetious. It is the worst performance in the history of music. I'd compare Yoko's vocals to nails on a chalkboard. I feel bad for you if you actually enjoy that.

Keep feeling bad, my friend. Not my problem

Ono's performances appeal to people who first of all do not really play music themselves and who have pretentions about being arty, along with a rather heavy dose of insecurity. It's the kind of high concept/ no ability crap that would precisely appeal to that sort. Whatever popularity Ono presently has is merely within those same circles today.

In the bonus interview Townshend tried to pass it off as some artistic statement. It's kind of like flinging elephant dung at a picture of the Holy Mary and calling it art(If you asked me).

Townshend tends to be a little pretentious. I wonder if even he believes some of the crap that comes out of his mouth.
