Great Movie? or Greatest Movie?

i know there's endless thread's on how terrible this movie is, but i had a little insight to throw into it...

i recently moved to shanghai, china, from dallas. they have one english television station here, and while the programming is generally crap, this movie dropped it to a new level. we have some chinese friends who speak a little english who watched it with us, as it is one of those movies you just can't seem to turn away from, and even barely understanding what people were saying, they thought it was terrible.

we all had a good laugh, so at least that transcended oceans and language barriers.

truly though, i have to give the editor of this movie a little credit for his creativity, there's SO many duplicate shots that without them, the movie would be roughly 28 minutes. as an amateur editor (someone who plays with final cut and calls them self an editor...) it's really a painful movie to watch. although, it's painful no matter your profession, but i do recommend it to those who enjoy awesomely bad movies, it takes the cake in that category.

plus, patrick fugit's debut as the menacing scotty is truly a masterful display of talent in his early career...no one gets sucked into an ant hill like patrick fugit.

favorite part (**SPOILER**)

it's a tie, when patrick fugit's brother shoots the ant hill after it sucked scotty in, and when the same character falls into an inexplicably soft spot on the ground...and immediately after the sherrif yells, "don't shoot your gun, the whole place will blow!!" there's a huge explosion...as if the deputy though shooting his gun at ants was going to save him...

cinema gold, pure cinema gold
