Did anyone notice?

I love this series by the BBC. John Simm is truly wonderful as are most of the cast. Just wondered if anyone noticed that in series one, the drowning happens in 1997 and the grave is marked as such. However, in series two, the grave is marked 1998. It's only a small thing, but it annoyed me. Does anyone know the reason why this was done?

I noticed it too &, yes, it really annoyed me. I wondered why such a class production would make such a sloppy mistake. It is almost too obviously easy to avoid that it makes you think the error has purpose. What purpose I don't know.

Yes queen_of_anarchy, it was most annoying to find this mistake in an otherwise brilliant masterpiece of a programme. I just can't figure out how they'd make such a fundamental error. However, the show still rocks. Love Kaye Wragg and John Simm.

Yes, I also noticed this, and it irritated me hugely. My take on it is that the 2nd series is written as though it follows on directly from series 1, and the date on the grave was `updated' to be current - or thereabouts - at the time of the screening of series 2.
(This is a pathetic reason in my opinion, but I seem to remember that at the time of screening both series, this was deemed important.)
