I don't know about the favorite Christmas movie bit, but this is indeed a great movie about Elvis that every Elvis fan should see to get a better idea of the type of person he was around this time of his life, and funny as heck, also.

"What's truth got to do with it?"
"What's truth got to do with anything?"

Yeah, this movie was great. The guy who played Elvis did an incredible job. "Muh boy, muh boy."

I agree! Thank you DVR for uncovering this gem from late night TV.

Not only was it an entertaining movie, but it had one of the best performances of Elvis.
This actor simply didn't impersonate Elvis; there was no out-of-place, hip gyrations or lip curl. He didn't mumble Elvis's "thankyouverymuch." His performance sells the artistic liberties took to stretch the story into a movie.
And, that probably was what was said in the Oval Office that day.

I agree. Go figure: a comedy that ends up capturing the essence of the guy better than any serious treatment before.

The actor doesn't look much like Elvis at all, but you're absolutely right that it's not an impersonation but a performance. He captures all of the things we've heard about Elvis but haven't seen all come together in a film before: his eccentricities, his bad temper, his flamboyance, his generosity and his sense of humor. Most of what I've seen is usually too dark, too reverent or too sugary. This one makes me believe that the Great Elvis Movie is still possible.

You're SO right! I've read pretty much every book I could find in Elvis, and I think out of all the movies made ABOUT Elvis, this film comes closest to the man that I've ever seen.
I have LOTS of rare recordings, studio outtakes & Elvis just messin round with his friends... He had a potty mouth on him like you wouldn't believe!

A GREAT MOVIE... About a GREAT man.
(I liked Nixon as well!)

Trust me,

My, you're nosey, aren't you?

It was just on Showtime Beyond channel today... love this movie more every time I see it. A real lost gem of a film.

While it isn't a historical portrayal, I like Lonely Street with Jay Mohr. It was a nice surpirse when I stumbled across this flick On Demand.
