Shame Roger never learned a lesson in this.

The movie tries to make a point about illegal immigration and Roger gets all uppity and righteous towards someone who knows all the problems they cause and chastises him with rhetoric of platitudes. Then after Roger almost dies, almost loses his watch, sees his property destroyed, witnesses dozens of people murdered, and almost loses the lives of everyone he loves, including Riggs, you would think he would say, "wow, maybe they should have stayed where they came from" because b.s. speeches don't solve the mess they cause when they arrive.

But nope. Roger never gets his realization moment. No acknowledgement that illegals from shitholes like China bring all their problems with them, instead of fixing them where they are, the US has to fix them here, while ignoring the problems of it's own citizens because it doesn't have unlimited money, and the people here would rather focus on curing world problems instead of what goes wrong, right here in every city in the US, which continues to be ignored.

People are struggling hard, and each one them raises a dysfunctional family that can't co-exist with others without more crime, drug and alcohol abuse, and violence. How many more people have to die for Roger and people like him to realize?

I remember a group of people some 300 years ago, who, instead of staying home and fixing their problems, went to America and couldn't co-exist with the others, but resorted to violence and crime.

China was a mighty empire for thousands of years before there ever were the USA. The wheels of history turn constantly and empires rise and fall. I mean, that "shithole", as you so eloquently put it, practically owns 25% of the USA. The "shithole's" money keeps things running in the USA.

And, while the USA spend money on it's army and waging wars, the Chinese are the ones who go to those countries after the dust settles and rebuild them, while getting paid with the US aid money.

All in all, the US are the "shithole" where China dumps all it's crap.

Oh China owns 25% of the USA? Is that so? I'm sure that helps the Hongs or the Triads out, or every citizen throwing their female children off a mountain.

And it wasn't 300 years ago. They came along a lot earlier than that and didn't start having problems with the people in the New World until they started raping and scalping everyone over land they claimed no one can own, which wasn't a problem til it was "their" land that was taken.

You should learn you fucking history better before go around using that bullshit to combat current day problems.

300 is just how old the USA are. Settlers have been eradicating the natives all over the Americas since Columbus set foot there. And you'd probably like your neighbor just fine until he started building a garage in your back yard.

The Chinese constitute nearly a quarter of the world's population. Try feeding that on land the size of USA. Of course there are about a 100 million who live like crap. But there are also two USA's worth of people who live just fine. Remember - they bought of the US so their currency wouldn't get TOO STRONG.

Here's a coherent point - my country (Serbia) is being rebuilt BY THE CHINESE from US AND EU MONEY. No one told me, I watch it first hand. Secondly, I refer you to an excellent book "Bury my heart at the wounded knee". The rest is basic history, current events and logic.

You know how they say people outside the US know more about it and its history? This is me waving "hello", a MENSA member, soon-to-be veterinarian.

What is the coherent point you are trying to make? China has money to fix your shithole country so all their immigrants must be great? You don't know know jack shit and can't even distinguish between what is a good reliable source and what isn't. While you're trying to read up on "basic history" from a fucking novelist, actual historians are busy debunking all that nonsense with real facts from documents, not from drunks crying their tales of woe to anyone who will give them a dollar. That's the extent of your "knowledge" You're basic. When you get to the next level, you can actually hang in this argument without embarrassing yourself.

They give a crap, only they are very practical. When you have that much people, you have to be.

The Tienanmen Square Massacre is the perfect example.Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending it, but it was a practical move, killing off several hundred people to keep several hundred MILLION at bay. Short term, it made them look bad and oppressive. Long term, it bought time to slowly introduce various reforms.

And, as far as people throwing female children off mountains goes, that's a cultural and individual thing, not a government policy. Killing babies is considered a crime.

And why wouldn't you accept them into your country? Your grandparents or great-grandparents came there running away from something, war, poverty, oppression... The USA were and are being built on immigrant power. And. as for my "shithole country", two immigrants from here created modern America, Nikola Tesla and Michael Pupin.

Thanks. I'm not saying I'm absolutely right, OP has some good points. This is too complex of a topic for two nitwits like us to discuss on a movie forum but we can do it in a civil manner. I'm all for a battle of opinions, but when someone calls me stupid just because I disagree... Don't insult me, convince me.

This is why I've loved the Americans forum on IMdB. The people and the discussions there have been amazing since the show started. Political, cultural and moral debates. People could learn there and most of the regular posters have been very civil, even in the middle of a heated battle of the minds.
