When they're at the docks, Murtaugh is whining about how "it's the land of the free", and the Border Patrol guy says, "well, it says no vacancies", and he replies "your ancestors were immigrants too", I cringed.
Then he brings them back and hides them...give me a break.
Biggest problem I had with that line was that it didn't sound like the guy was even advocating the "No Vacancy" policy. In fact, based on the inflection in his voice it almost sounded like he was implying he didn't agree with it (and it isn't like he had anything to do with that policy or could change it). Then Murtagh just attacked him for seemingly no reason. It was just weird.
Having said that, I don't think they were pushing some kind of open border agenda so much as the were reaching (rather ineptly from a narrative point-of-view) for some kind of rationale for the Murtagh character to end up with Hong's family at his house in order to drive that, ultimately unnecessary, sub-plot forward.
