Operators aren't supposed to be emotional.
The way Jim sounded was very strange. That was one of the reasons I thought he was the killer, because he doesn't sound as distressed as he probably should've been. I don't know if it was bad acting, a personality quirk that he was portraying, or just a red herring thrown to the audience to increase their suspicions of Jim.
shareI would say it's the character. I mean, if you watch his interaction when he first meets them you get a sense that he's a little off. I think he sounded more confused then anything else.
shareYes, he was confused. At that moment he should have no reason (ther than the unexplained blood) to believe they were dead, just lost. He felt it odd they were nowhere, so he went back to call for help. He didn't know what happened to them.
shareShe was behaving like any regular 911 operator by staying calm. Also, Jim was just reporting that some people were missing. There's was no indication of murder at that point. Were you expecting the operator to exclaim "Oh my God, you can't find them? What are we gonna do?!!"
