Interview with Matt and Trey.

After their first meeting Tuesday for the upcoming 23rd season (premiering Sept. 25), The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Parker and Stone at their Marina del Rey studio (named Casa Bonita) to discuss how long they want to keep doing South Park, some plans to make a (non-South Park) movie for the first time in 15 years and the rise of cancel culture.

Why does anybody still watch this???

reply

I watch it because I like it. Love it, in fact. It started when I was young and has maintained a high level of quality for the entire run. I know that one can receive massive amounts of "cool guy points" by shit talking shows and saying things like "it's sucked since the first couple of seasons", but you really go out on a limb when you stand by something these days and I don't ever see myself not standing by these guys or this show. I guess I'll just sacrifice the points.

reply

It was great in the beginning and still watchable for quite some years afterwards. But now it's just awful. I'm honestly not seeing what you're seeing. Nothing to do with any points, I don't give a shit about that.

reply

That's good to know. And, I wasn't necessarily saying that you were doing that. For all I knew, you might have hated it since the pilot. I was just stating that that is a thing that seems to happen quite a bit, and that SP is definitely one of peoples' favorite shows to do that with. I understand (and partake) in shit talking shows when they deserve it, a la "The Walking Dead" or the final season of "Game of Thrones", but to act like SP is even remotely near any of that, to me, is comical. But, hey, as long as you seeing it as "awful" is genuine and not to impress internet strangers, who am I to judge?

reply

I have to agree. I gave up a couple of years ago but decided to watch the latest episode. It's trash. There are much better ways to spend the time.

reply

I have missed a few seasons.

reply

I've missed more than a few.

reply

Not since they pussed out on the Mohammed episode.

The show is now becoming the very thing it used to make fun of: https://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/705/640/673.gif

I haven’t tuned in since 2015 but before that I had seen every episode. I’m sure it still has some merit but I just got burned out on it. I do think Matt and Trey probably make good shows still.
