‘South Park’ Creators Stun Hollywood Crowd: ‘We’re Republicans’

Too funny. Cant' wait for LibTards to start burning South Park DVDs!

Larry Elder: Trey Parker & Matt Stone of @SouthPark asked me to introduce them when they received a "freedom" award from Norman Lear's organization. After they graciously accepted, they said, "We're republicans." Nervous laughter. They repeated, "No, seriously, we're republicans."

The foundation, whose opening website message calls on people to “Defeat Trump and the Right Wing in 2018,” describes itself as a “progressive advocacy organization founded to fight right-wing extremism.”

South Park, meanwhile, has for years ruthlessly mocked aspects of both the left and right of American politics, and has recently focused on belittling aspects of political correctness and left-wing campus culture such as “safe spaces” and “trigger warnings.”

However, Trey Parker said last year that unlike many comedy shows, South Park would move away from jokes about President Donald Trump, as they had “gotten boring.”

Although not overtly political, the pair have long described themselves as libertarians, but have claimed what they really dislike are the excesses of both political extremes.

This has been well known for almost 20 years. it became pretty obvious by the time of the 2000 election.

reply

Making fun of The Goracle, Prophet of Doom, make them Republicans?

Nope, they've never said anything like this. Parker has said he's Libertarian.

reply

Yes, they have said something like this, around the 2000 election ("basically Republicans" were their words). You can call me a liar if you want, but I damn well read it and remember it.

Whatever they are, the show South Park hasn't been Republican in a long time. The downturn started when they embraced big spending around 2009 in the wake of the downturn. Since then it's become increasingly watered down, PC, and liberal. Maybe they're just afraid of rocking the boat given how leftist Comedy Central has become, but I cancelled my DVR series record this season because every episode was just Trump bashing. It wasn't even original Trump bashing. They were just going with whatever the liberal narrative of the week was.

If I hear that they move away from that and get back to truly mocking the leftist/PC establishment like they did in the 90s and early 2000s then I might start watching again. But right now there's little point to watching a series that's become just a lighter version of almost everything else on tv.

reply

well when i was young and stupid in the 90's and beyond there was alot of counter culture going on and that made it seem more edgy. I think they are trying to make fun of liberals but we're grown up now so it doesn't seem as edgy

it's about the laughs, can't we laugh anymore? no, because were old and everything seems like shit.

reply

No, they've changed. It's not the same show that once had gnomes explain the glory of corporations through song, made tobacco executives good guys, and mocked Al Gore. That shit's still funny to me and it's more politically incorrect than ever. The show isn't as edgy, anti-PC, or funny as it used to be.

reply

I don't want to argue with you on a show we don't enjoy as much anymore.

But can't there be more than one reason why we don't like it?

reply

Sure. You've changed since then. My point was just that the show has changed too.

reply

The show was never "Republican", that doesn't even make sense. Most of the politics is anti-left or libertarian, not conservative.
Most like they said they were Republican because they realize how corrupt Democrats are.

I just checked the S13 (2009) episodes, there were 7+7, many great ones like Whale Whores and Fish Dick, which was just made into a movie.

Whatever label you want to put on it, it hasn't been anywhere near as "anti-left" in recent years as it was in its prime. And I cited 2009 as the start of the downturn, not a low point.

I think Ep 3 "Margaritaville" was the spending episode I was talking about.
