What a great show, learned a lot there...

I was 7 or 8 when I started to watch this show, and love it, but my Granpa, who was about 87 at the time (1975-1976)was his ONLY show, there was no cable TV, but he always insisted when anyone, on anyday at anytime turned on the TV, he always ALWAYS asked: Tune it on "The New Wilderness". he passed away a couple of years later, and over the years whenever I saw the show or re-runs of it, I really understand why he wanted to watch nothing but that show, and everybody else blame it on the alzheiner or something like that, I'm sure not.

This is for you, Asad Maluf.

I agree, this was a great show. I watched it every Sunday night in the early 70's. Then I'd watch Gunsmoke.

I would just like to say that I had just checked out a couple of the DVD's of the show at my local library. I especially loved singing the Mutual of Omaha jingle whenever those commercials would come on. Of course, I didn't really know what the slogan "People You Can Count On" meant at the time. I just really enjoyed watching those ads along with the program. I loved seeing Marlin and those guys fly by helicopter to spot the animals. That was cool to see. I'm sure Marlin is smiling down on us in heaven for releasing these programs on DVD. He left an incredible legacy.

I am a cinemajunkie !

I remember this show from when I was five years old. God it was great!
I remember one time they were trying to capture a hippo or rhino. I remember at one point they said "The Hippo is chasing all the Africans".

Then I remember seeing a whole bunch of guys with towels wrapped around there waist running in the mud, from the Hippo !

It was wild !

I drew much happiness from this show !

I remember it very well myself. I was born in 1968, and thus did not watch it in its original Sunday afternoon run, but often did on Sunday nights in syndication from the early 1970s as a kindergartener until the late 1970s in upper elementary school. I'd watch it back in our den with my father, and during the 1970s I wanted to be a zookeeper for a time. I also wanted to be a fireman for a time then, which I know was inspired by my love of Emergency!, but maybe this show inspired the zookeeper ambition (?). And I always really liked Marlin Perkins, and the way he'd tell things while standing in front of a desk in a suit, with the Mutual of Omaha (rock) logo behind it. And I remember seeing those commercials during it, and did learn what insurance was a little bit (which most young children likely know nothing about).

This was a cool show. I'd forgotten how much I liked it when I was a kid :)

usherman; Our Family watched it religiously, but we did notice one curious thing. NEVER did a Predator succeed in getting its meal! Compared to todays Nature shows it is very PG & PC.
