Would it be better

If Padme had lived but, as implied in Jedi, given up on Anakin, gone and married Bail Organa and passed away between III and IV?

reply

I think it was best to show her fate. She was a central character of the PT and obviously a key person in Vader's life. It would be strange to have her disappear and later die offscreen for unspecified reasons. That said, there are undoubtedly a lot of different ways they could have tied up her story that might have been better.

It would have been better if she survived Episode III, and then wrestled with the fact that Anakin turned into Darth Vader, a dark lord of the sith, and died sometime early in the 19 years between III and IV, when Leia was just a very young girl.

reply

Maybe, but there is a theory out there that Sidious was using dark side sorcery to drain the life of padme to keep Vader alive.

reply

The only problem is Leia said she spent time with their mother as a child and they are faint. Must be five or six. They were separated before that as Luke has no ties to his mother.

I think that would have been terribly anticlimactic, but probably still better than the ending that made it to the screen. Personally, I wonder if it would have been better if Anakin actually HAD killed her, rather than being the idiot who believed yet another of Palpatine's lies.

And that was probably in the script at some point, I heard that in TPM there was a dream sequence that got deleted, where Anakin dreamed about a pregnant Padme at the head of a hostile army.
