Was R2 attempting to murder C3PO?

Just as they enter the comedy production line fray R2 nudges C3PO off the edge of the (Star Wars trademarked non health and safety) door opening over a precipus.

He then precedes to use his own jetpacks.

What was his idea here with attempting to murder C3PO? Had he simply had all he could take of him?

Good call - and no doubt true re the "future" callback to ROTJ. However here there was no sand, just a huge drop with C3PO saved through sheer luck!
