Beautiful soundtrack; exotic locales; gorgeous clothing........ EXCEPT:

The dialogue was very, very poor! This is MY FAVORITE episode because of the mesmerizing, haunting soundtrack, the rich beautiful locations, the dark ominous theme throughout the entire movie was quite exceptional and George Lucas DESERVED a better appreciation for making a great movie! If only the dialogue had been mediocre at best, this episode would've ranked much higher! For example, when Anakin and Padme are burying Anakin's mother, R2-D2 approaches them and Padme turns around and says: "R2, what are you doing here"........ Obviously, a better line would've been: "R2?" as then Padme doesn't look so shocked to R2-D2, since it's ASSUMMED that it must be important, instead of playing dumb as to why R2-D2 shows up without notice..... It's not like as if R2-D2 had arrived unexpectedly from another starship w/another Jedi-Knight! Padme knew that R2-D2 was waiting the entire time that they were there! Another scene where the dialogue was overkill was when Padme says "I love you" to Anakin just before they enter the arena. She must've sang a song saying "I love you" over and over! Just a quick but unexpected DEEP, PASSIONATE KISS w/a sincere "I love you" would've done that scene so much more feeling, similar to princess Leia and Han Solo just before he gets frozen in Carbonite........ Although not a dialogue issue, the scene when the spy drone cracks Padme's bedroom window to release the poisinous insects and R2-D2 does NOT notice at all? I could see if R2-D2 was in "sleep mode" while charging his battery power but that was very stupid! R2-D2 is not known to make such horrific mistakes! Anyway, there are much more scenes that are similar, if not worse, but I assume that my point is established. Thank you.......

the prequels are still better than the original trilogy...

The prequels are still better than the Disney crap.

The dialogue was awful, as was the direction. Only the most talented and experienced actors, like Ian McDiarmid, were able to overcome Lucas's directing.

Yeah, there were things I did like about this movie, but I had issues with Hayden Christensen's wooden acting and the pacing of the last quarter of the film.

I agree forvthe most part. AOTC had so much going for it with the great art direction, new interesting locales and a great soundtrack.

It wasn't the dialogue in general that was the problem but much of the dialogue between Anakin & Padme that REALLY needed to work but just didn't.

Part of the problem i feel traces back to the my biggest issue with TPM which was casting Anakin as a little kid which squandered the opportunity to develop the dynamic of Anakin & Padme's relationship in a believable way as AOTC Anakin feels like a completely different character which comrsc across as somewhat awkward.

The possitives of this film significantly outweighs the negative but much of how the film would be perceived hinged on the Anakin/Padme relationship which needed polish in its execution. The chemistry & diologue just didn't come together in a number of key scenes in a way that may have had Hayden Christiansen & Natalie Portman worked together in the previous film.
