Why is Anakin growing up while Padmé is not?

It puzzles me and certainly many others that the character of Anakin grew up, grew taller naturally while the character of Padmé did not. Padmé was already at least 5 years older than Anakin when they first met. In this film Padmé appears not much older than in the previous film. Either one must have taken any kind of magical drink. Did I oversee something?

They should have just used Jake Lloyd again for Episode 2.

reply

Definatly shoulda just used Jake Lloyd again,I like him more than HC. Of course I guess they needed a older actor due to the sex scenes or somethin.

reply

Yeah, that would have been more logical. Or the should have taken HC from the beginning (or someone better than Christensen, seemed very inexperienced as an actor). Or they just had to make Padmé look a bit older, some glimpses of white hair.

reply

Oh God no. One film with Jake's terrible acting was enough, thanks. Not saying much, but Hayden was a huge improvement.

Plus, Jake was still only 12 at the time AOTC was shot, so the massive age difference would have still been apparent (Natalie looks a pinch older here than she did in TPM).

Lucas had no choice but to age Anakin so he could kick off his romance with Padme. He set himself up for failure.

reply

Are you serious? Lloyd was 10 in phantom. he'd have been 13 by the time of this movie. plus he was totally over star wars after the roasting he got and wouldn't have done it.

"He's dusted, busted and disgusted, but he's ok"

reply

Well, Padme was just simply older than him and she ws already a teenager while Anikan was only and adolescent child. I am a 29 and I look exactly like I did in 8th grade.

reply

You really do? Can you tell me the recipe of your magical drink?:))) Could be worth trillians.

I actually find it frustrating as I am carded more than actual underage people. I recall going to hooters with my roommate and he was only 19 and managed to order a beer but I was carded. I was stopped in a hallway of a middle school I was visiting because they thought I was skipping class. Also, when it vomes to clothing I have to wear boys size pants and jeans because of my build. Suits, that a joke, they either have to be bought in the boys department or have one made because tha alterations in men's sizes would be so much.

Sounds like everything about your physical appearance still screams, "adolescent." Try dressing like and adult and holding yourself in a more mature fashion.

reply

The style of clothing is not what I'm talking about. You would not know that some of my clothing comes from the boys department. I only buy my pants and occasionally my suits from the boys department, but you would not know unless you look at the tags.My clothing style actually should suggest and older person and usually consists of high end designers shirts and sweaters. My clothing style nor behavior have nothing to do with it. I was addressing my small stature and extremely young physical features mostly dealing with my facial features.

I find this difficult to believe - - even famously youthful Ralph Macchio clearly looks older in KK3 than he does in the first film, and there was only a 5 year gap between those two films.

I find this difficult to believe

Then don't! Wasn't asking you to believe it as I wasn't addressing you nor seeking you opinion on matter.

even famously youthful Ralph Macchio

I am not Ralph Macchio so the mentioning of him is irrelevant.

Please don't hit me.

Maybe the aging process of Naboo people is different than that of Tatoinne people.

reply

Yeah, we're is that even remotely implied in any of the prequels.

reply

I believe Padme was supposed to be 14 or so in the first film, an age at which most humans are at or close to their adult height.

And her adult height is short. So even if she grew a couple of inches between the first and second films, she'd still be a foot shorter than the other major characters.

Lucas had 16 year-old Portman playing a 14 year-old and 19 year-old year old Portman playing a 24 year-old, LMAO. While casting 9 and 19 year-old boys to play Anakin. *beep* yeah, Anakin's growth spurt is going to be more noticeable.

It doesn't help that Portman looks older than 14 in TPM. Here she is at that age:

She clearly looks more childlike, as most 14 year-old girls when compared to their 16 year-old selves. The gap in age between Lloyd and Portman looks closer to 8 years, not 5.

Lucas either didn't think this through, or figured the audience wouldn't care. I personally thought it was hilarious.

reply

It stands out, but is actually one of the less glaring aspects of the prequels

reply

Because bad movies, but I'm sure some sad nerds have a pathetic way to explain that too.

reply

Because girls age slower than most boys do.

reply

I don't think it's that puzzling. Anakin is 9 in TPM and he's 19 in AotC - kind of young to get married, but whatever. Padme is 14 in TPM and she's 24 in AotC. I think they look fine for the ages they're supposed to be.
