"You will be expelled from the Jedi Order!"

...So what? 
Being in the Jedi Order seems like it sucks, anyway 

LOL, kind of. It was pretty unbelievable that so few Jedi had chosen to leave.

reply

How do we know that many didn't? Qui Gonn even says in Episode I that it's a hard life.

Anakin: Does the Jedi Temple have Cinemax?
Qui-Gon: Yes, but there's no HBO. Like I said...

They were raised in the temple, with caring older Jedi touching, sorry teaching them.

They were a family of sorts... a higly disturbing one with little green men, but a family nonetheless.

reply

That's what I thought. All those stupid rules. Being a Jedi wouldn't be worth it.

reply

Especially since Anakin was pretty much willing to throw out the Jedi code re: romantic relationships the moment Padme re-entered his life. He didn't even try to adhere, just went straight to being solely concerned with getting his dick wet.

You don't give him enough credit. Anakin tried to be a good Jedi. As a result his mother died. He toed the line, and only left when he coldn't take the dreams any more. If he hadn't listened to Obi-Wan, and followed his instincts, he could have saved his mother.

reply

Um, I was talking about his pursuit of Padme, which is completely against the Jedi code that he'd been taught to follow for the last decade. He didn't even try to resist flirting with her in their first scene together, and it only got worse from there.

Hell, if anything, tossing the code aside for that while holding off on going to save his mother only makes Anakin look even worse. And given that Shmi died within seconds of seeing him again, whose to say she wasn't too far gone a while ago and only held off in the hopes of at least seeing someone she loved one last time?

Not really, no. From what I gathered, Obi-Wan convinced him that his mother's plight was all in his head, not a premonition at all. I'm guessing Anakin trusted Obi-Wan until the dreams got really bad.

Weeks, or even a few days would have made some difference.

reply

So wait, does this mean that when Obi-Wan doesn't offer advice that Anakin always tosses the code aside? Also, Obi-Wan didn't feel the need to advise him to keep his feelings for Padme in check despite their conversation in the elevator and Anakin's creepy line about wanting to dream about her? Man, this is making Obi-Wan seem pretty dumb. It also doesn't change the fact that Anakin showed no attempt to resist getting with Padme. And in this case, a person's life isn't on the line. So again, it paints him as someone who couldn't care less about his Jedi code no matter the situation.

Weeks, or even a few days would have made some difference.

How long was she captured for again? How do you know for certain this would have made a difference?

reply

In reference to your question about the duration of time Shmi was captured, I recall that Cliegg Lars said that it had been a since he attempted to save and losing his leg. She could have been held by the sand people for a couple of months prior to Anakins arrival.

reply

Jedi are protectors of the galaxy,it's not particularly meant to be fun.

reply

Dont forget, the Jedi order is pretty much everything they have even known. That is all they know. In the temple they are important people, educated people. Outside they are nothin, probably couldnt get a library card if they tried

reply

Prior to a certain wealthy galactic senator declaring her love for him, I would agree. But afterwards, he should have seized the first opportunity to jump ship (literally!)

reply

I agree.

It seems the Jedi Order was set up by Sith Lord Voldemort.

Instead of being great, like the round table, it is a cult more like the Shakers.

Thanks, George, for messing that up too.

reply

Yeah... when Obi-Wan said this I was like: Does Anakin even care about the Jedi order anymore? This is the kid that killed sandpeople on a whim and was quick to anger, not to mention blaming Obi-Wan for all his problems.

reply

You said it. Give me the Gray Jedi any day!!!
