"Women killed" - so what?

I had a massive problem with the hysterical "I even killed the women and children!" bit. So, he killed women, in the Star Wars galaxy, so what?

Cheap outrage-device by Lucas that doesn't fit the world it's playing in.

It's bad enough Anakin killed anyone at all! I doubt that literally all Tusken men were guilty of torturing his mother. Maybe it was just one head-honcho doing the torture.

I have no idea what the gender relations of those Tusken things are specifically, but the Star Wars galaxy as a whole seems to be completely egalitarian. Lots of female warriors there and all, even during Lucas' heyday (Leia, Mara Jade, Padme, Ahsoka etc.). And now even more under the new direction! (Rey, Rogue one)

Lots of female politicians with power as well.

So, if they are allowed to fight and decide, they are allowed to be killed. It's that easy.

No special female-protection in an all-egalitarian society. Makes no sense. That's what "equality" is actually all about if taken seriously. Same privileges, but also same risks and no special protection codes.

Maybe in a primitive society like the Tuskens are we are to believe that female Tusken Raiders are not warriors at all like a lot of primitive societies

Anakin is from Tattooine and you aren't, he probably knows more about the workings of Tusken society than anyone on this forum.

So if he felt guilty about killing the females, that sort of implies that he knows they aren't combatants, but he could be just projecting his human values onto them because he's a dope. A big whiny dope.

reply

it's a good point. There are possibly those who do no hunt or fight, but merely cook and raise the children, who he also killed.

"He's dusted, busted and disgusted, but he's ok"

So does our society. We still put women and children first.

Well, they are the bread & butter of society, can't really move forward without them, aye?

Off topic, but:

In Episode IV, the Tuskens are portrayed as evil (attacking Luke, ...). In Episode I they are again portrayed as evil (shooting at the podracers).

And, in Episode II, once again, they are evil (abducting Shmee, ...).

Anakin killing the Tuskens was George's way of saying: look, good people can become evil too. Unfortunately, George failed miserably. No one gives a crap about the Tuskens.

They were portrayed as evil in 1977, and they were again portrayed as a$$holes in the prequels.

No one gives a sh!t about them! Who cares if they died? I sure don't. Padme was right when she said: "meh". Like everything in the prequels, that storyline was rushed and made no sense.

Man, this movie really is the worst of the prequels. TPM is Citizen Kane compared to this.

I'm just on my way up to Clavius.

The Tuskens are primitive people, the women were most probably unarmed, so there's that.

reply

No one was supposed to care about the Tuskens. We're supposed to care about Annakin and how he FEELS about what he did. Padme didn't say, "meh." She focused on Ani and what he was going through. If they had picked a more humanoid race, the horror of it might've been more distracting. But because we don't care about Sand People, we can focus on the important thing--Anakin's descent.

Lucas didn't "fail miserably." He did the right move using Tusken raiders.

This bothered me, too. Kids, I can understand, but women? So what?

Men's Rights Activists should spend more time looking for female companionship and less time fuming over crappy fantasy films.

Massive problem? Get laid, dude.

...says a poster on a 14.5 year old Star Wars movie message board (rolls-eyes).

Lame comeback considering you're posting on this 14.5 year old board too.

Riiiight. Because to "get laid" means one has to be having sex 24/7, and everything else ceases to bother you.
