Ahhh, if it were only that easy. I live in the U.S. and got turned on to this series about 4 years ago and have been avidly clawing and scraping to collect them all. here's the deal for us unfortunate one's here in the States. I have only been able to find one copy of The Battle of Stalingrad on VHS in NTSC format and that was on EBAY and cost me $25 for the 2 tape episode. I have seen maybe one or two more in VHS/NTSC on EBAY but the sellers wanted absurd cash for it. forget them, here's what you can do. Originally I was only able to obtain a occasional new episode from my local PBS station. However, all stations are different and have different airing per county you live in. Although I have ALWAYS seen it aired (3 different county's I have seen it scheduled)on Thursdays only at 9 or 10 p.m. not to be confused with Battlefield Britain which is usually the program on instead. PBS cannot sell you a copy of any of the series even if aired recently because they get it from the BBC and BBC holds the rights or some crap like that. If you call any PBS station whether your local or the main office and ask them to punch it up on the computer they more than likely won't even find it, even though they air it. they can't tell you when the next one is scheduled for airing either. Lame, I know. and they might only run one episode in 6 months. So it might be worth checking occasionally on your guide to see if it airs. more than likely not though. Fortunately the military channel (that's channel 287, available only with a satellite dish and Directv membership as far as i know) now airs the first 12 episodes (only one part of each episode a day) daily at 3 p.m. Pacific time. Although they misprint the shows' name as Battlefields instead of Battlefield on all of their listings for it. with tivo i have snatched all those episodes (Midway,Stalingrad, Battle of Britain, North Africa, Russia, Italy, Leyte Gulf, Battle of the Atlantic, Battle of the Rhine, Battles of Berlin,France, and Normandy) I am able to make DVD copies of these in the +R format without a problem if you don't have directv. that takes care of 12 episodes. To date i have counted a total of 27 episodes released. for the others what I've been doing is ordering them from the U.K., go to EBAYUK online then type in Battlefield under DVD search. Have found them for as low as $11 per episode with shipping! For viewing them because they try to stick it to you with PAL format and different region codes all I had to do was go to wal-mart(Best Buy and Sears also sell) and buy the cheapest DVD player they had. Cyberhome brand only $33. It plays NTSC and PAL discs both. for the region code problem i just went on google and typed in "region free hacks for Cyberhome DVD players" A list of sites popped up, i clicked the first one, then clicked the model type i had and a ton of easy hacks were listed to change player to region free setting. wasn't hard just pushed "Menu button, then #9 button on the remote and it brought up a window on the TV screen with the region setting on it and all I had to do was change the # to zero and it plays all discs from any region in the world no problem. Most DVD players these days have secret codes you can enter to change region settings. Only newer players play NTSC+PAL formats. older ones won't. find the CYBERHOME brand cause they're easy to hack. Man I didn't intend for this reply to be so long, sorry man. hope this helped. let me know if you have any more questions or want any of those first series episodes. I've got 21 episodes so far. the others i can't copy because they're copyright protected and I haven't been able to crack them yet. oh and I think I was wrong earlier, i believe there's 28 or 29 episodes not 27. here's the titles of the remaining shows that I know of. Take it easy. Jeff B.
Scandanavia: The Forgotten Front
Pearl Harbor (Comes with The Fall of Singapore as a bonus)
The Campaign in the Balkans
The Siege of Leningrad
The Battle of Kursk

Jeff:

I have been looking for this series for quite some time also. I have tried to contact PBS (they never responded), History Channel and other web movie sites without success. I have several of these episodes on VHS tapes but don't have a player any longer. I would very much like to get as many as you have. I have a newish Sony dvd player but I'm not sure about what regions it will play. Please let me know if you think it will or how I might be able to change my setting.

I think may favorite one is the one on Stalingrad with Battle for the Rhine coming in second. If you are interested in helping me out and getting me a set of everything you've got please let me know and we can work out the detail$. Thank you in advance.

i go to my local library and get the tapes from the inter-library network to view. the tapes get shipped from all across the country. i get like 3 weeks before they're due back. i do not know if the last series of Battlefield is available that way.

. . . thank you for that info. Demonoid, the p2p/torrent king - in my eyes anyway - currently have 27 or 28 (out of ???) uploaded there. I am downloading the first 5 as i write this - the first two just finished - and the quality is indeed "P-E-R-F-E-C-T", certainly blows away VHS/CABLE/LASERDISC. I would say these are DVD quality.

I just wish i had the episode order of this series as the way they are uploaded on Demonoid it doesn't really "seem" at all like they are in any sort of chronological order. (just curious if the makers had the eps produced to be aired in a certain order for a certain reason(s) that i may not be aware of. Othere than that i reckon i can put them into some semblance of a chronological order just using the knowledge of the war gleamed over the many years i've studied it.)

~THANKS AGAIN, and PEACE,
