Sloppy mistake in movie's structure

Spoilers

LOVE this movie! It makes me laugh out loud.
But at one point, a massive structural error reveals it was cobbled together from an entirely different story:
Pacha and Kuzco have been journeyeing to the palace for the first 60 minutes of the movie, when they decide to go back to Pacha's house (for some flimsy non-sensical reason (spoken very fast, to cover the illogic): Pacha "We're just going to stop at the house and get some supplies" ), and they have returned there within one minute.

After days of travel:
- They're not anywhere near Pacha's house.
- Pacha's house is in the opposite direction. They decide to go in reverse, to go forward?
- They don't get any supplies.
- The long journey has just doubled in length.

A B C

Returning to Pacha's home is absurd. It's like going from point A to point B, then back to point A, to get to point C. You can't "stop by" a house that is in the opposite direction from where you are heading. They clearly needed/wanted the scene with everyone at the house and couldn't figure out how to get it in, or they needed to pad the movie.

I'll try to make sense of it best I can:

The bridge is, at most, a couple of hours walk from Pacha's village, and about the same distance from the palace. When it was destroyed, Pacha and Kuzco were on the wrong side, and Pacha said it would be a 4 day walk the long way around the canyon.

They have their fight and Pacha leaves at the diner - this is the first food they have had since they left Pacha's house so we can assume it is on the same day that the bridge collapsed, or very early next morning. They can't have got very far in that time.

Pacha and Kuzco meet up again the next day. They decide that there isn't time to walk for another 3 days to get to the palace (now that they know Yzma is out to kill Kuzco), so they head back to Pacha's house for "supplies" (i.e. the bow, arrow and rope they use to cross the canyon).

Yzma and Kronk had found out about Pacha's village during the night, so they are slightly ahead and make it to the village first - as I have explained it's less than a day's walk away, and it's pretty clear at this point that both groups are hurrying, not strolling along - so they arrive there that same day.

So there you go - I think that makes sense.
