This Movie was the START and the CLOSING of the IMDb Forums!

1999 is when the forums started, and the buzz for this movie was booming on this board. So many fan theories and speculation about how awesome it would be. Interpretations of the trailer, likes and dislikes, Obi-Wan being a badass, Darth Maul being scarier and more powerful than Vader, Anakin learning how to be a Jedi.

And here we are, nearly 18 years later, and the consensus is that the movie was nothing but hype and a total let down for Star Wars fans across the ages that required a necessary reboot WITH the original cast to restore balance to the franchise.

Midichlorians? Anakin being conceived by the force and turning into Space Jesus? Darth Maul with about 5 speaking lines and killed off after 5 minutes?

So long Episode 1. Jar Jar we hardly knew ye! 

I'm not sure what was so bad about midichlorians or even Anakin being conceived by the Force (not a huge part of the movie or the overall saga).

It was cheesy as hell?

And I was here debating with the rest of you. Man I miss those days, back when there was no Episode II or III, Rebels, Clone Wars, Disney, Aftermath, etc. Episode I was messed up but it could have been rewritten and reshot to better reflect the classic trilogy if George had only sat back and realized that Jar Jar should never be key to anything.

Anakin building C-3PO, the same model that exists in nearly every solar system in the galaxy, was probably where I realized something was very, very wrong with this movie. Placing reactor cores in Hangar Bays in ships that are apparently twice the size of the giant Imperial-II Star Destroyers in the classic trilogy is inexcusable.

Though I will admit it took me a few years to realize how silly this movie was, approx 3 years, 2002 era. We went home at that midnight screening in May 1999 feeling... good. It was 3AM so yeah, not really a clear mind to judge, but I saw it 2 more times in the theatre and it was enjoyable. Thanks to these forums, it became obvious; the flaws of the movie were big.

Hard to believe these forums are closing down... Been here almost all my Internet life.
