What did Gune's device do?

I have enjoyed many viewings of this movie. One thing always bothered me.

What did Gune's device do?

He realized that he had unknowingly built it while "sleep inventing?" and didn't know if he should press the red button, worried that it might be a bomb or something dangerous.

It looks as though this was part of another plot of the movie that was ultimately scrapped or cut short.

Has anyone found a script or alternate story connected to his device?

I suppose its also just as fun imagining what it might have done had he pressed the button.

Maybe its like the Omega Device from Galaxy Quest! ha ha

I wondered this too. I just watched this for the first time in years, and when Gune was talking about his device, I was like, "Well obviously this is important, remember this, Stephanie." And...then nothing happened!

Much love and BIG KISSES,
Steph

It's weird, because I see to remember him using it in the version I first saw, I also remember Goon dying. I just watched it again (downloaded) and was waiting for these scenes but they didn't happen, it suprised me. I was sure I remembered seeing them.

I think I know what happens. When he hits the button, it reveals the contents of the suitcase from Pulp Fiction. lol! But seriously, it was just a gag at the intelligence of Gune, who is never wrong, and actually managed to build something in his sleep, and then doesn't even know what it does.

It might also reveal the reason that a Flux Capacitor needs stainless steel construction to be a primary design of it's subject in order to function correctly.

Might also be a dig at the obvious plot devices (like the hydrogen balls) that are given to the viewer with a big wink in a lot of sci-fi movies.

"Okay, well THIS is important."
"Oh. ****."

Keep flying, son. And watch that potty mouth!

this is a valid question and now that you mention it, I have wondered this for 13 years. Now I am on a quest. Just tonight, I did find someone who has an original script and I wrote him requesting this info. I also found out that Joss Whedon was on the writing staff for this movie. If the guy with the script doesnt answer, I will write to Joss and Don Bluth. I will find the truth.
