That honor would go to Bambi. It took the movie 64 years to get a sequel (or midquel) (called Bambi II).

And it was not worth the wait!
Going by the "official" Wikipedia list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_longest_gaps_between_film_seq uels) next year's "Oz: The Great and Powerful" looks to break the record, being a prequel to a 73-year-old movie. Looking at this list, it's depressing to see how many cashgrab Disney DTVs there are on it...

The Wizard of Oz and Oz the Great and Powerful are from different studios and is a pretense prequel to the book events
