The reasons why I like this movie...

Right, I will start by saying I don't think it is as good as the original. I felt it was a little too short and the host segments were uneven, but I like this movie still for several reasons.

1. The baby whale is so cute! Even when I first saw the film when I was 8 I couldn't stop going "aww!" every time the baby whale appeared.

2. The sprite in the Firebird sequence is absolutely gorgeous. I love everything about her, her hair, her movements and that cherubic face of hers.

3. The Firebird, I didn't mention this in my review for this film but he is a very underrated character here. Like Chernabog was a brilliant villain in the original, and he gave me nightmares, the Firebird is a worthy antagonist, with very sinister movements.

4. Symphony Number 5, the segment itself was one of the weaker segments of the film I felt, but it is always a delight to hear Beethoven's music whether on film or not.

5. People may say that Carnival of the Animals is the funniest segment. Personally I think the Pomp and Circumstance segment gets that title. I love Donald Duck, and while there are some touching parts here, there are times when it is hilarious.

6. The animation is really good especially in the Pines of Rome and Firebird sequences.

7. The music is wonderful. I don't care completely for Stravinsky, I am not a fan of the Rite of Spring segment of the original, but I loved it here. And it is always a delight to hear Rhapsody in Blue, a very clever piece of music, and I think I underestimated how fantastic Shostakovich's 2nd Piano Concerto is(especially the 2nd movement, heard it in concert after a while of not caring for it, it reduced me to tears).

8. I thought James Earl Jones and Angela Lansbury's introductions were fine and the one introducing Pomp and Circumstance was fun, however I felt Steve Martin and Penn and Teller's were unneccessary and Bette Midler's I found interesting but overlong and some of it could have been better written.

Overall, I like this movie, it isn't as good as the original, but it is one of the better Disney sequels(that is if it counts as one). Out of 10, I gave it an 8.

I'd give this movie an 8/10 too (for the same reasons you brought up). :)
