Magneto's plan

I know he needed Rogue because she could use his powers, but why did he need those powers for the machine?

reply

When he first used it to turn Sen. Kelly, it almost killed him and he only projected it out a short ways. By using Rogue, he was able to take advantage of her youth and project it out across the island.

It is something which I've talked to my kids about. I have far more respect for people (military excluded) who are willing to sacrifice themselves for their plan than I do for those who simply want to sacrifice others so they themselves can live and reap the "rewards."

Yes, but that the original post is asking WHY Magneto specifically? What was so special about him that he had to transfer his power into Rogue to make the machine work?

I watched the film last night and I have no idea. It's never explained and doesn't really make any sense.

reply

I just figured it had something to do with his powers of magnetism being converted to something else.

It really isn't anything that requires much discussion. It's a comic book movie which is, by and large, true to the source. What has been changed is insignificant and/or needed because certain things don't work in movies like they do in comics.
