Stylish, Well acted and boring...

I saw this on HDNet tonight and was not sure that I was going to be able to get through it.

Jude Law is what got me through it, his acting was excellent as well as the talented cast. The story itself was pretentious and boring.

Why did that gang keep following them? What was their part of the story?
There were alot of these moments in the movie.

Dont rent.

4 out of 10.

I have to say Elina Löwensohn helped me get thru it, but after watching it several times, I enjoyed the appreciate of poetry and art that this medical technician seems to have. As far as the gang, it's hard not to wonder that Grlscz might have had something to do with that to get the cop off his tail. I mean, how else could Grlscz have beat them to a pulp? A medical technician who appreciates art and poetry and lives in a fancy six story apartment, AND knows karate? I think maybe my values are off and it is Jude Law who should have maintained my attention in this film.

I think the movie is well done. It's almost film noire and I like that moody atmosphere. There is a lot of psychological terror in this movie and I almost covered my eyes in the elevator scene.

The acting is good and I particularly liked the police inspector. He seemed very real to me. Jude Law, whom is not one of my favs, did a great job. His almost acrobatic movements added a lot to the character. I would have liked to know more about the character's history.

This movie reminds me a lot of "The Hunger" with David Bowie, Susan Sarandon, and Catherine Deneuve.

I agree, smith.

Also, my favorite scenes were with the police inspector and Jude together.

I thought it was an excellent film. Its a movie for adults. Its not filled with cliches or goofy Hollywood CGI crap. Its a love story; a murder mystery; and a vampire film rolled into one.

Vampire films are always a tough sell for me, and I adjust my expectations accordingly. I didn't dislike this as much as most vampire films, thanks to the performances and art direction, but I found the story flat. Jude Law carries off the lead role thanks to a well-choreographed performance, but he's given very little to work with here.

I'll be generous and give this 6/10, but I think it's a very weak 6 indeed.

You really hit the nail on the head. The actors were good, but the characters were bad. Just bland. The story was pathetic. It's almost as if they were making it up as they went along, which is terrible considering they had a whole book to draw inspiration from.
