I watched this movie out of boredom last night, but was interested because of the vampire subject matter. No it didn't have flying, fangs, neo-martial arts moves, or slick costumes, but it was slow and for the most part boring! I understand how the film was given a 1 star rating in the synopsis. If you love romantic drivel and poetry in your horror flicks, then this one will DEFINITELY appeal to you.
I wish it were "merely a vampire movie." At least then it would have been entertaining. You don't get points for cramming 50% of your action into the last 4 freaking minutes, and even that was just a lame chase plus a screw/rod to the hand. This movie was bad because I never really cared about the characters. The plot wasn't good. No good characters + no good plot = no good movie.
Whatever. The characters were very, very developed; the story was artistic with grand themes and the plot was very original.
Sadly, judging by your response, it seems you would have liked a generic vamp-action movie for fanboys.
It makes me wonder why you even bothered posting a response for this movie which is more for the literary art house crowd in which vampires are used as a metaphor for self-serving and lying in relationships.
I am not saying it is perfect, but it seems that the genre trappings may have hampered the enjoyment that many popular culture, mainstream fans get out of this original tale. Sad but true.
P.S. Horror is my favorite genre, as well. However, it should be thought of as an artistic genre, not a fan boy one. I am all for entertaining trash too, but I rather have depth and emotion in my movies.
