The word, the concept, the randomness of Albania
is not as funny as everyone involved in the film from the writers, director and actors are playing it to be. Twenty minutes in and its been used maybe 40 times as a joke.
shareIt's not supposed to make the audience laugh, it's meant to demonstrate how easy it is to sell Albania as a backwash rogue terrorist state. Noone knows anything about it, perhaps except that it's a poor Balkan state. This is further pointed out when Kirsten Dunst wears a traditional festive outfit in the fabricated video. Obviously, noone actually wears this regularly in Albania, yet people wouldn't identify Dunst as a poor victim of terrorism and poverty if she wore regular clothes.
shareYes. Albanians are among the villains in Taken, made about a decade later. Anything Foreign is the target but the utility of Albanians as evil foreigners is certainly demonstrated.
