to all people on this board who has fired a glock!

this has happend to me the first time i ever fired a glock the gun threw out the empty bullet casing and when it did that it went down the back of my shirt and man was it ever hot. Has this ever happend to you?

reply

no but i have been hit in the forehead by an improperly sized casing ejected from a desert eagle 50 cal...it drew blood lol

reply

are you serious? You got hit in the head by a shell casing I know that had to hurt did it also burn you when it made contact?

reply

why can a desert eagle only hold eight rounds in the clip? I mean a bretta can hold up to fifteen do you know the answer to this?

reply

Take a look at the pictures at this page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_handgun_cartridges

Compare the .50 AE used by the Desert Eagle to the 9 mm in the Beretta. Then guess for yourself...

reply

Its not just the size of the cartridge, its the construction/layout of the gun.

The Desert Eagle uses what is called a single stack magazine, where one cartridge is right on top of another, it would look something like this from behind

O= cartridge

O
O
O
O
O

The Beretta is a double stack mag, where the magazine is wide enough to hold 2 rounds side by side, or slightly staggered. Double stacks are of course wider, which makes the grip thicker. This isn't too much of an issue with slightly smaller calibers (9mm, .40 S&w .357 Sig, etc) but with larger calibers the grip would be huge and not usable for someone with smaller hands. This is an issue with the older Glocks chambered in .45 ACP. The newer .45s (G-21SF I think) they managed to slim the grip some.

Which is in turn explained by the size of the cartridges, as I indicated in my reply.

reply

right! by the way... picture a double stack 50 action express magazine?? how thick should it be.

the desert eagle holds 8 shots because it is not really a weapon for self defense. its just supposed to be extremely powerful (and loud)... and it is.
but thats it.

reply

besides... beretta mags are double stack, while desert eagle are single stack (just like 1911s)

reply

are you seriously asking that?!?!

reply

I have never had that happen to me when you say that the glock back fired on you what does that mean?

reply

When you fire a Glock the spent shell casing fires out of the gun and it occasionally fires back towards you. It left a pretty fresh mark on the face of a friend of mine, and a nice little mark on my forehead!

If you ever intend to fire one, I suggest you wear eye protection just in case!

reply

Nope, but they only let us fire a few magazines. I guess budgets are smaller.

Can't wait to own my own Glock though. Cheap, simple and works. It's the gun version of Toyota.

reply

It's "who have". Because "people" is plural.

Guess you're not as smart as a fifth grader.

reply

Nope never happened to me but as someone before me said, I was only allowed to fire a few mags.

If that 'Love God And Are 100% Proud Signature' makes you sick, make THIS your signature!

reply

Never had that problem with a Glock, then again, I like sticking to Sigs.

reply

I have never held a Glock and I have no desire to do so, most of my hand guns are all S&Ws. I have had brass come back at me but I guess I can take hot stuff on my skin without a problem I guess my skin isn't all that sensitive. To people that say they are only allowed to fire a few magazines I suggest you open your wallet and spend a few bucks to pratice, pratice, pratice. If you are in law enforcement your life depends on it. My department only had me qualify once a year but I went out a few times a month and spent my own money on ammo. If I was still employed I would be using a Glock but I retired just before my department made the switch to Glocks. The gun I now carry is a S&W model 327 8 shot .357 magnum revolver. Glocks are fine weapons but I just don’t care for them. If I want to shoot a semi-auto it is a 1911 or if I want something small it is a S&W CS45 (.45 ACP)

Shell casings get caught in my clothes all the time, the more you shoot the more it will happen to you. I've had all kinds burn me, I actually had one get caught in my hoody once and stay the so long that it was melted to my skin afterward. THAT hurt, aloe vera for a week.

reply

I've never had it happen to my with my Sigs, both are amazingly consistant as to how the extractor ejects the empty casings. If I stand just right, every shell will land in the container on the range divider wall. I have shot others that kick brass back at you, its hot, but I've never been burned or anything.

reply

Interesting. I've shot at least 1000 rounds with my Glock and I've never been hit by one of the shells. But I don't doubt the possibility, I've seen those suckers fly.

reply

the only time i got hit by glock brass was when i fired my g-26 with the magazine out of it and just the one round in the chamber, to show my buddy it could be done. when the brass got ejected, it came out of the bottom of the grip, since the mag was out of it, and hit my supporting hand. it surprised me since i wasnt expecting it. and yeah it burned a little.
