The Treat

A friend of mine sent me a copy of this film from the U.S., and I was amazed by it. I was surprised that it wasn't released in the United Kingdom. It makes you wonder how many other films there are which we don't get here. I liked it because it was unpredictable. At each moment you have almost no idea what is going to happen next, so this keeps you on the edge of your seat. And yet the film doesn't have what you would call a conventional plot, so it's not like a thriller where you want to find out who is the bad guy or how the bad guy is going to be caught, instead it's about the characters. But it feels like a thriller. It's also a kind of satire or portrait of society. I like films which are about more than just a personal story. And, surprisingly, even though this is not a big expensive movie, it says a lot about a lot of things. I saw Mars Attacks! which was written by the same person which has the same quality. That film also was comic but had many layers to it and was about American society, but was done on a big budget. The Treat shows that you can do the same thing on a much smaller budget. Most films remind you of other films, but this one seems to be one of a kind. It's a great movie, and rewards repeated viewing.
I think it's gonna get a huge cult following in the future.

The director is a true genius and the actors got truly creamed at the Oscars. It's a shame that this hidden gem got so few credits.
It's however true that it requires some patience and several viewíngs to get into it.
