Jim Caviezel is Luminous in The Thin Red Line
He personifies Zen and he is an absolute marvel as Private Witt (in an absolutely marvellous film).

I had read in an interview that Jim's performance in this film had been Mel Gibson's inspiration to cast him in The Passion of the Christ. Particularly Jim's last scene before he is killed by the squad of Japanese scouts.
