were Jim Caviezel + Sean Penn brothers in this film?

when Jim Caviezel was captured & had conversation in ship with Sean Penn, when Sean Penn leaves Jim Caviezel looked at ground and has a cutaway (past shot/scene) when he says i dont hate Sean Penn...there was an other boy in his past memory...so i thought Sean Penn was his elder brother who tried to keep Jim Caviezel out of was & wanted him to stay alive.

Nah but it speaks miles about the characters that you thought that. The First Sergeant (Sean Penn) of any unit is the mother and the big brother for all the enlisted men...his job is to take care of them whether it be tough love or whatever. I think he was mystified by Jim's character, sure he wasn't the ideal soldier but most of the admonishment he got was likely from Sean's character not understanding him, he definitely cared about him the whole time but when he realized he was dead I think he was deeply upset because he never got to figure him out, never got to learn what made him tick. Like he said "Your a mystery", a mystery he never got the chance to solve.
