Agreed it was an outstanding performance but hated the character he portrayed. Seemed very envious of the younger officers and didn't really care for the men under him. Just wanted his final blaze of glory.
shareIt's a weird one. Nolte's character seems genuine; like a man hiding his true feelings (expressed at the beginning) but getting on with "what needs done", yet Nolte himself is one of the few negatives of the film for me - I think he plays it way too over the top, scenery-chewing at times.
