We're Just Dirt Quote

After Nick Nolte has a meltdown and regroups with the guy who refused to lead his men to death, there is this guy wandering around mumbling stuff- "Show me how to see things the way you do " and "Dirt, we're just dirt. " who is this guy? The acting was superb and he looks familiar to me. Might just be a resemblance to someone else, but any info on the actor would be appreciated because it's driving me nuts.
